On 8 November 2021, Civic Tech announced the launching of a new tool "Ignite Pass". This tool is designed to filter out bots by obliging buyers to complete aliveness verification (pre-approval) to make NFT purchases.

For verification, Civic's website records whether or not the users take a video selfie. Civic uses an Ignite Pass for the verification process. The Ignite pass will be active for 24 hours to "limit the options of baleful botters conforming multiple wallets."

"Civic does not store this video selfie," marks the website.

The Ignite Pass is a free version of know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance tools, Civic Pass. These tools are delineated for decentralized finance (Defi) platforms, NFT marketplaces, and public blockchains.

Civic Technologies CEO Chris Hart comments, "Bots are more than a nuisance — they're dismantling the trust built by the communities. Also, the prospects of its creators are being blown up."

What is stored for the future?

In February 2020, Dapper Lab's NBA Top Shot was coerced to obstruct the launch of a new series of Premium Packs. The reason was its high levels of botting activity on the platform.

Several MoonCats NFTs' users complained of the project being overrun by bots programmed to accumulate new cats as soon as they dropped online.

Responding to the complaint, the botting, Ponderware - MoonCat developers organized a voting poll on whether or not to destroy a private key holding a collection of rare unreleased MoonCat. 72% of the community voted "yes" during the 48-hour poll.

In September 2021, Paradigm researcher Anish Agnihotri commented, "many individuals knew the major network deploy in advance, so they successfully planned to bot their transactions."

It was during September that the Solana network went offline for around 17 hours. A gush in activity from bots targeting Grape Protocol's Initial DEX Offering (IDO) caused the same.
