In a petition today to Singapore's High Court, Höptner claims Bitmex conducted an unjustified internal probe into him in order to avoid paying millions of dollars in wages and incentives. According to the allegation, he was fired in late October as a result of the inquiry, which was centered on his migration from Hong Kong to Singapore and afterward to Germany. The investigation found that he had misused corporate funds to pay for the movements.
Alexander Hoeptner's attorneys argue that Bitmex owes him $3.4 million plus penalties in the claim, calling the company's charges completely without substance. In addition, to paying housing and school benefits, this sum includes a $2.4 million second anniversary bonus.
The lawsuit was brought by Höptner's legal advisers, Kelvin Chia Partnership, in the General Division of the High Court of the Republic of Singapore against Three Fins Pte Ltd., a Singaporean subsidiary of HDR Global Ltd. that was the driving force behind Bitmex.
On January 25, a hearing will take place. According to a Bitmex spokeswoman, the exchange is unable to provide any significant remarks at this time because the issue is still proceeding before the Singapore Court. The accusations made by Alexander Höptner will get a response from the exchange in court (which is the appropriate forum).
