According to its website, Bitcoin Academy aims to provide education and empower the community with knowledge and get rid of some of the barriers so that residents can learn more about Bitcoin specifically and finance in general. The program will be taught by Black Bitcoin Billionaire founder Lamar Wilson and Najah J. Roberts, founder of the first African American and woman-owned crypto exchange and education center in the U.S.
Classes will be free and offered online or in-person from June to September, with in-person classes taking place two evenings per week. Those participating in the program will receive smartphones and MiFi devices with a one-year limited data plan. While focused exclusively on Marcy Houses for the time being, the program plans to expand to other neighborhoods in New York in the future. A “Crypto Kids Camp” will also be available for residents aged 5 to 17 on weekends.
On Twitter, JAY-Z, who features a CryptoPunk as his Twitter profile picture (PFP), said the goal of the academy is to provide people tools to build independence for themselves and then the community around them.
Jack Dorsey also took to Twitter to share his views about the latest venture.
This isn’t Jay-Z and Dorsey’s first collaboration. In 2021, Dorsey’s Block acquired Jay-Z’s music streaming service Tidal, a new platform for artists to create and get paid. The duo also deployed a 500 BTC investment together last year with an emphasis on developing the cryptocurrency’s popularity in India and Africa. Therefore, it can be said that the duo has been at the forefront of taking cryptocurrencies to the masses.
