Jack Dorsey’s Bitcoin Hardware Wallet Comes With Fingerprint Sensor

Jack Dorsey Bitcoin
The Bitcoin hardware wallet from Jack Dorsey-led payments company Block is expected to come with a fingerprint sensor instead of a password or seed phrase to secure one’s Bitcoin holdings.

On Friday, Dorsey himself commented on a Twitter post from a team member who shared a blog post on the newest update.

“We believe PINs, passwords, and seed phrases are confusing and often not secure given the workarounds normal people have to create given all the friction. This compounds when the need for those passwords are more rare,” the blog post read.

Block acknowledges this approach has its own tradeoffs but claims that it would increase security against theft or misuse of the hardware wallet.

“We're aware of limitations we'll need to design around….the statement reads…As we build the product, we'll evaluate additional access methods that customers could opt into. And of course, fingerprint sensor data will never leave the hardware device.”

Mobile App Will be the Primary Interface

Block will prioritize the mobile app as the primary interface to provide a more accessible, safer, and cost-effective hardware wallet. Additionally, the wallet does not come with a display and will use a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery and a USB-C port for power.

The company lastly asked the community to give feedback on anything related to the Bitcoin wallet regarding user experience, security among other concerns.
