Kraken Names Gemini's Former U.K. Chief as Its New U.K. Managing Director

Blair Halliday
Blair Halliday, the former U.K. managing director of Gemini, has joined the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken as its new managing director (MD). Halliday will be in charge of Kraken's commercial, regulatory, and political partnerships in the U.K., trying to capitalize on the government's ambitions to turn the nation into a center for the cryptocurrency industry.

Kraken Hires New Managing Director

Curtis Ting, the former leader of the United Kingdom and Europe, is now Kraken's worldwide senior managing director, managing operations throughout numerous countries. Thus, Kraken now has a doctor of medicine who is entirely interested in the British market. Through its companies Crypto Facilities and Payward, both registered with the Financial Conduct Authority, Kraken is governed in the United Kingdom (FCA).

Halliday worked with Gemini for nearly three years, beginning as its top compliance officer for Europe and ending in July 2020 as its U.K. MD.

At the American cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, Jesse Powell resigns as CEO. The U.S. Treasury Department is looking into charges that Kraken broke restrictions by enabling Iranian customers to conduct transactions on its platform.

Kraken - No Plans to Get Registered With SEC

The newly appointed CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has declared that the company does not have any plans to register with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or to delist any tokens classified as securities by the SEC. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department has previously criticized Kraken for allegedly allowing customers with Iranian addresses and users from other nations to buy and sell cryptocurrencies in violation of U.S. sanctions.

By trading volume, the U.K. is one of Kraken's major markets. More generally, trading against the pound on cryptocurrency exchanges has increased recently, partially because of the pound's devaluation. Three hundred fifty of Kraken's 3,300 employees are in the United Kingdom. More than 10 million dealers and institutions are claimed.
