Mark Zuckerberg: Horizon Worlds Will Undergo Several Modifications

Mark Zuckerberg
The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, has opted to redesign the primary metaverse program Horizon Worlds after it received harsh criticism for its graphic simplicity. Outrage was caused by one of the Horizon Worlds selfies of Zuckerberg's avatar, which was used to introduce the platform in France and Spain.

New Graphics Will Be Added To Horizon Worlds

The CEO of social networking and VR firm Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, declared that several modifications are coming to Horizon Worlds, the metaverse-focused app, to make it more realistic and graphically stunning for users.

In addition to sharing the announcement, Zuckerberg also displayed the new attractive appearance that the network will employ in the future in an Instagram post. He clarified,

"Major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics coming soon... The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more - even on headsets - and Horizon is improving very quickly."

A series of criticisms led to these upgrades. It began with a selfie of Zuckerberg's avatar used to promote the release of Horizon Worlds in France and Spain, which some users considered old due to its basic visuals.

Users Heavily Criticized The Company

Many slammed the firm by comparing the images displayed to what pre-2000 technology could produce. American activist and data analyst Emily Gorcenski stated:

"Come work for Meta, where the most brilliant technologists of the day have achieved 1995-level graphics."

Influencers, bloggers, and commoners criticized Meta. Kevin Roose from The New York Times said,

"It's genuinely puzzling that Meta spent more than $10 billion on VR last year, and the graphics in its flagship app still look worse than a 2008 Wii game."

Zuckerberg Elaborates

But Zuckerberg clarified the visuals of the digital selfie,

"I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic - it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch."

The controversy comes as Meta invests heavily in its metaverse business, Reality Labs. Despite having more than $400 million in sales in Q2 2022, the unit lost $2.8 billion in that same quarter. To continue funding its activities, including its metaverse subsidiary, the corporation issued $10 billion in bonds earlier this month.
