After his internal communication to the Meta group was exposed, Carmack shared it on Facebook, saying Meta has a tremendous number of individuals and resources, but the company routinely self-sabotages and wastes effort. He further stated that there is no way to embellish the fact that the organization is just half as productive as he would want.
Before Oculus was purchased by Meta (later Facebook) the next year, Carmack joined the VR hardware and software company in 2013. In order to devote more time to his Keen Technologies firm, which focuses on artificial intelligence, he decreased his job to that of consulting CTO in 2019.
Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3D, and Commander Keen are just a few of the video games that Carmack is credited with creating. Additionally, he declared that he was tired of the struggle with Meta, which is investing billions in its Reality Labs department to create tools like VR headsets and software for its metaverse goal.
Moreover, while at Meta, Carmack would publish internal writings in which he criticized the leadership decisions of the company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and CTO Andrew Bosworth.
