According to filings submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on May 13 Meta has filed 5 trademark applications for 'Meta Pay' platform.
The application described Meta Pay as an ‘online social networking service for investors who wish to trade finance, exchange cryptocurrencies, virtual currencies, cryptocurrencies, digital digital assets and blockchains.’
In addition to payments and transactions, Meta Pay will probably give more loan and investment solutions, in accordance with other information in the application.
The social media giant previously acquired the MetaPay.com domain name from the South Dakota-based MetaBank in a $60 million deal in December 2021.
Meta previously filed eight trademark applications for its logo with the company as part of its pivot towards metaverse and blockchain technology.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said on May 9 that the company had begun testing digital collectibles on Instagram, signaling a move toward adding non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.
