According to Forbes, Salinas is the second richest person in Mexico and the 106th richest person in the world.
He is the latest billionaire to change his bio to the Bitcoin emoji joining among the ranks of many people who made the similar move including MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor, Skybridge’s Anthony Scaramucci, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and for a brief time, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
Salinas's online presence shows that he is a firm believer of the Bitcoin system. For instance, on October 21 2020 he posted a list of book recommendations that included The Bitcoin Standard, by economist Saifedean Ammous.
A month later, Salinas tweeted on the importance of diversifying one’s portfolio following the recent attack on fiat money in the Latin American banking system. He even revealed that he has around 10% of his liquid portfolio in Bitcoin with the rest in precious metal miners.
Salinas revealed that he initially sold his Bitcoin (BTC) during the 2017 rally at $17,000, after purchasing it at $200 in 2013. He even claimed that Bitcoin remains his best investment ever. Salinas bought some Bitcoin before the cryptocurrency surged to new all-time highs in December and January. That resulted in him more than doubling in his profit. He further revealed that he isn’t planning to sell any of his crypto holdings for at least five years. Bitcoin’s price currently stands at $39,132, having dropped more than 5% in the last 24 hours.
