The network said that it hoped “Mr White Hat” would contribute to the continued development of the blockchain sector upon accepting the $500,000 reward, which it had offered as part of negotiations around the return of the digital coins.
However, it should be noted that the statement did not mention the exact form in which it is going to pay the $500,000 reward. Though the statement revealed that the hacker responded to the offer, it did not mention if the reward was accepted.
Tom Robinson, the Chief Scientist and co-founder of Elliptic, a crypto tracking firm, shared digital messages on Thursday that showed a person claiming to have executed the hack had said Poly Network offered him the bounty to return the stolen assets.
As for the crypto platform Poly Network, it is not much popular in the crypto space, and it is a Defi platform that facilitates P2P dealings with an aim of allowing users to transfer tokens across different blockchains.
In accordance with the statement released on Friday, the hacker has returned $340 million worth of assets and transferred the bulk of the rest to a digital wallet jointly controlled by them and Poly Network.
Without giving further explanations, the statement said:
“After communicating with Mr. White Hat, we have also come to a more complete understanding regarding how the situation unfolded as well as Mr. White Hat’s original intention.”
Also, it should be known that the hackers said in digital messages that they executed the attack just for fun, and it was already planned that they will return the tokens.
