On Feb. 14, a Twitter user asked Elon Musk if SpaceX merchandise store and Starlink will accept his favourite cryptocurrency Dogecoin as a payment method. In a very subtle way, Musk indicated that there might be a possibility of that happening after he replied with a winking face emoji.
Responding to the exchange was none other than Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus who commented that he wants to buy a model rocket with dog money.
If this turns out to be real, it won’t come as a surprise really considering Musk's Tesla has already begun accepting DOGE payments for a few of its products last month.
Musk’s SpaceX has been bullish on Dogecoin for a very long time. In fact, the company last year launched a Moon mission called “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon” that was funded entirely in DOGE. The launch was initially planned for the first quarter of this year but recent updates indicate a March 2022 release.
SpaceX’s vice president of commercial sales, Tom Ochinero stated that this mission would demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth and at the same time establish the foundation for interplanetary commerce.
