Tether Aids DOJ in Seizing $6 Million from Crypto Scam Operations

Tether Aids DOJ
Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, recently collaborated with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to seize $6 million in digital assets. These funds were stolen through crypto confidence schemes in Southeast Asia, where scammers impersonated legitimate digital asset exchanges to defraud victims.

Tether’s Commitment to Combating Crypto Misuse

In a statement, Tether underscored its dedication to protecting the digital asset ecosystem by actively assisting law enforcement in various jurisdictions. According to Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, “Tether is committed to supporting law enforcement agencies globally in combating cryptocurrency misuse.” The company continues to collaborate with government agencies to disrupt illegal activities and ensure that victims of fraud are supported.

Significant Recoveries and Ongoing Efforts

In addition to recovering the $6 million, Tether has played a crucial role in several other operations, helping the DOJ seize $9 million and nearly $5 million in USDT from illegal operations, including disrupting pig butchering schemes and tech support scams. The company has worked with over 180 enforcement agencies across 45 jurisdictions, blocking $1.8 billion in USDT linked to criminal activities. Tether has also redistributed $128 million to rightful owners and law enforcement and blocked more than 1,850 wallets involved in illicit operations.
