On February 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Turkey-Syria border. It now has a death toll of 33,000. The co-founder of Ethereum has been one of a number of people actively donating Ethereum to Turkey's relief operations. According to the report by the blockchain security company PeckShield, his most recent contribution to Anka Relief was 50 ETH, which is approximately $77,000.
Anka stated that crypto donations had been flowing since the first day and thanked the Ethereum co-founder for his donation. Anka provided a list of cryptocurrency wallets that can be donated. The Ukraine DAO project, which aims to raise crypto donations to support efforts in the besieged nation, is also spearheaded by the Web3 relief support organization.
Vitalik has already donated 99 ETH to earthquake victims. The vitalik.eth address sent approximately $150,000 in ETH to Ahbap, a non-governmental organization devoted to Turkey's relief efforts.
Additionally, Ahbap has provided a number of crypto addresses for various tokens that can be donated. It claims to have received crypto donations totaling $4.3 million so far, with stablecoins being the most frequently sent tokens. Crypto donations have been flooding in from all over the world in the aftermath of last week's earthquake. Companies have sent more than $10 million in cryptocurrency, with Binance alone donating $5 million to support Turkish relief efforts.
Last week, Binance also announced BNB airdrops worth $100 to those in the hardest-hit areas.
Cryptocurrency has already been used to donate to earthquake relief efforts. Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2015, relief organizations received Bitcoin donations.
