It has been verified that an airdrop will take place, according to a message from the Ukrainian government's official Twitter account. A snapshot will be captured and released on March 3rd at 6 p.m. Kiev time (11 am EST).
The Ukrainian government issued a plea to the world last week, providing wallets for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether to anybody who wanted to donate in cryptocurrencies (USDT). This was welcomed with enthusiastic response and a large number of contributions from the cryptocurrency community. So far, the linked Bitcoin wallet alone has received 219 bitcoins for a total of $9.6 million in bitcoins while the Ethereum wallet has received more than $10 million. The TRON community was also said to have donated more than $1.2 million in USDT.
Subsequently, the official Twitter account revealed that it is now taking contributions in another cryptocurrency as well, Polkadot. Gavin Wood, the creator of Polkadot, also gave a $5 million commitment to the cause. Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, who has been outspoken in his calls for contributions, also declared that the government would take donations in the amount of $DOGE. It is likely that more cryptocurrencies will be accepted in the near future.
Additional information about the airdrop, including the blockchain and the method of distribution, was not disclosed. Nonetheless, it is considered to be a strategy to generate new donations, as well as a token for those who have already made contributions.
