Vitalik Buterin, the creator and co-founder of Ethereum, donated $5 million of ETH to Ukrainian charities this week.
While he did not personally announce the donations; the transactions were instead disclosed by Aid for Ukraine, which was co-established by the Kyiv-based crypto trading platform Kuna. He also donated to Unchain Fund, a charity project run by blockchain activists for Ukraine’s humanitarian aid.
Per a tweet from the Ukrainian government-run incentive Aid For Ukraine, Buterin “donated almost USD 2.5m in ETH two days ago, and didn’t say a word.”
The incentive also wrote that Buterin “also donated USD 2.5m to Unchain Fund” a charity group founded by blockchain activists in support of Ukrainian victims of the conflict.
The Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, who was influential in setting up the initiative, also expressed his gratitude, to tweet:
“I couldn’t be more grateful for every crypto donation to our lifesaving initiative. It really helps to strength our country and protect democratic values. Special thanks to Vitalik Buterin for standing with Ukraine.”
