WallStreetBets Launches New Subreddit Dedicated to Crypto Discussions

WallStreetBets Crypto
Reddit’s investor forum WallStreetBets is expanding its scope to include discussion on cryptocurrencies. On Wednesday, the forum’s moderators announced the launch of a new subreddit dedicated exclusively to crypto and its related activities.

WallStreetBets Announces New Subreddit for Crypto Discussions

Moderators of the popular Reddit forum, WallStreetBets, recently announced the launch of the “r/wallstreetbetscrypto” forum, citing a positive response to the ideas floated in April.

“Back in April, the idea was floated that it was time to allow discussion about crypto here on r/wallstreetbets. The response was overwhelmingly positive. We had a discussion amongst us mods at the time to see if it would be something,” the moderators stated.

This is a significant development for the forum, which rose to prominence as a result of meme stock rallies this year. At present, WallStreetBets has a total of 11 million followers, while the newly created crypto forum has 12,000 followers.

According to the moderators, crypto was kept out of WallStreetBets because it wasn’t representative of the community. However, with many people involved in crypto trading, “times have changed and crypto does seem to belong here,” they indicated.

Notably, WallStreetBetsCrypto will be part of the same community and have the same format as the original forum. It will also be run by the same people who are working with WallStreetBets.

Users Have Mixed Feelings About New Forum

Following the launch of WallStreetBetsCrypto, many users of the original forum have expressed their opinions. Some users have been critical of the development, while others such as Orzon have hailed it as an interesting effort.

“Thanks for making it a different subreddit. I think mixing crypto and stocks into the same sub would be disastrous because it would be two totally different environments mixing,” the user pointed out.  “Making it its own subreddit gets around all of these issues and gives a place for people to discuss crypto without being drowned out by stocks, and for us to discuss stocks without being drowned out by crypto.”
