On the Layer 2 main network of zkSync, Opportunity would function as a supplementary off-chain compute layer. Layer 3 is a layer built on top of zkSync and designed to reduce gas costs and improve Ethereum scalability. According to Matter Labs, in the initial quarter of 2023, zkSync's EMV-compatible Layer 3 proof of concept Opportunity will come alive, introducing a starfield of 10X moments to Ethereum.
On October 4, Cryptoknowmics reported that to speed up scalability and increase security for Ethereum, Layer-2 solutions provider zkSync will soon deploy its 2.0 mainnet. The zkSync 2.0 mainnet was anticipated to go live by October 28 and will expand the scalability options for tokens created on the Ethereum blockchain.
In the first quarter of 2023, the team intends to make Layer 3's proof of concept accessible. This comes immediately after Matter Labs released the baby alpha version of zkSync 2.0, a ZK-Rollup that is interoperable with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
The end-to-end system's deployment to the mainnet is a component of the milestone. To do a series of real-money stress tests on the system to ensure it is operating and functioning as planned. There won't be any external projects or users during this stage. The reduction of risks for the entire ecosystem is a primary concern when it comes to security. Notably, Layer 3 launch considerations have not been exclusive to zkSync developers. StarkWare unveiled the idea and an ecosystem of numerous Layer 3s last year, each devoted to a different use case.
