A16z Leads $40M Funding For Web3 Knowledge Protocol Golden

A16z
Golden, a decentralized information platform, has concluded a $40 million fundraising round organized by the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, or a16z. Protocol Labs, OpenSea Ventures, and founders of Solana, Dropbox, Postmates, and Twitch, were among those who participated.

In addition to managing the Series B fundraising round, Ali Yahya, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, will join Golden's board of directors with cofounder of a16z Marc Andreessen. The financing offers Golden more tools to continue developing its protocol, which aims to standardize knowledge discovery and validation in the Web3 era.

Golden to Develop Decentralized Interface

Golden is constructing a decentralized interface that encourages gathering and validating canonical data. Currently, it is in the testnet phase, where 35,000 people are contributing facts and verifying information via the Discord community, a live decentralized app, APIs, and early governance in operation. The mainnet implementation of the protocol is anticipated to launch in the second quarter of 2023.

The business said this is not just a web3 Wikipedia, but it aims to develop new applications and discoveries that are not currently feasible.

A16z Releases Series of Licenses for NFT Projects

In early September, the cryptocurrency subsidiary of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) released six NFT-specific copyright licenses as part of a free and open set of "Can't Be Evil" Licenses similar to Creative Commons (CC).

Chris Dixon, the managing partner of a16z, and Miles Jennings, the general counsel, said in a blog post that the business is addressing the existing ambiguity and misunderstanding regarding NFT licensing. By outlining the rights of an NFT creator, buyer, or seller regarding the artwork of digital assets, they hope to democratize access to high-quality licenses and foster uniformity across the Web3 industry.
