Adidas has joined the Bored Ape Yacht Club with its own entry. The clothing brand purchased Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT #8774 and turned it into a metaverse character named Indigo Herz with Adidas’ iconic tracksuit on it and now using the character as its Twitter avatar.
It also teamed up with notable NFT collector Gmoney, as well as Punks Comic, an unofficial Ethereum NFT project inspired by the popular CryptoPunks.
On Thursday, the brand dropped a short video trailer where GMoney, a crypto punk, and a bored ape are shown flying from outer space together towards Earth, to the tune of Louis Armstrong’s classic “What a wonderful world”.
Adidas also hosted a Twitter Spaces with a group of employees, a representative from Bored Ape Yacht Club, and gmoney. An Adidas representative said that it was five months in the making, while the Punks Comic team said that the next NFT issue of the comic which will release next week will feature the character.
According to data from the public Ethereum blockchain via OpenSea, Adidas bought the Bored Yacht Club NFT in September for 46 ETH for over $156,000 at the time.
The three-way collaboration comes just days after the brand announced a partnership with Coinbase and purchased a plot of virtual land in The Sandbox. Coinbase responded excitedly to Adidas’s announcement, promising to meet them in the Metaverse.
Bored Ape Yacht Club contains more than 10,000 NFTs minted on the Ethereum blockchain. Gmoney is notable crypto and NFT influencer who has been featured on Fortune NFTy 50 while PUNKS Comic combines both the world of NFTs and physical comic books to create crypto comics.
