According to a statement on Sunday, a team from the jurisdiction's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch is collaborating with the Bahamas Securities Commission to determine whether any illegal activity occurred. On Thursday, the country's Securities Commission seized FTX's assets and terminated the exchange's license.
Bahamas financial regulators have been keenly observing the proceedings. In response to FTX's admission that specific clients had been permitted to withdraw money from the exchange due to local regulatory restrictions, the Securities Commission released a statement denying that it had given the exchange instructions to resume withdrawals. Additionally, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) are working together to look into the operations of FTX in the United States.
It clearly looks like bankruptcy is the last of the problems for the FTX exchange and the criminal investigation into its dealings may create further troubles for the company.
