A few hours ago, BAYC’s official Twitter account warned its followers against minting anything on Discord at the moment, confirming the recent hack of its official server.
According to security firm PeckShield, the hacker posted a phishing link in the Mutant Ape Kennel Club channel disguised as a ‘stealth NFT mint’ and used it steal Mutant Ape Yacht Club #8662 from one user. The token in question is currently worth over 21 ETH worth $68,900 on OpenSea.
In addition to the sought-after Mutant Ape, 1 BAYC, 1 MAYC, and two NFTs from the Doodles collection held by well-known singer Jay Chou were also stolen.
Following the news, ApeCoin (APE), which supports the project, has shed 6.7% from the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $12.88 according to CoinGecko.
NFT influencer Farokh recently warned about a similar exploit on another Discord server of Doodles, another popular NFT collection, but the official team has not yet confirmed.
