Canada to Supply Anti-Tank Weapons to Ukraine, Ban Russian Oil Imports

Canada Ukraine Russia
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday that Canada will give Ukraine with anti-tank weapons and enhanced ammunition to aid in its fight against a Russian invasion, as well as a ban on Russian crude oil imports.
"Canada will continue to back Ukraine's valiant resistance against Russian military aggression," Trudeau said. "We are declaring our plan to prohibit all crude oil imports from Russia, an industry that has enormously benefitted President Putin and his oligarchs."

According to Statistics Canada, Canada imported C$289 million worth of energy items in 2021.

Canada has already given weaponry and non-lethal assistance to Ukraine, as well as backing a variety of measures, such as the suspension of Russia from the SWIFT system for international financial payments.

Canada was also involved in preventing Russia's central bank from accessing its foreign reserves.

Foreign Minister Melanie Joly had warned earlier in the day that the G7 would impose new penalties against Russia.
