The previous general manager of Crypto.com has joined the company as Ireland's national director. Michael Schroeder, who formerly served as chief compliance and risk officer at the more modest cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex, has been named the new director of controls in Germany. Elke Karskens will become a regional director in the UK after serving as senior director of marketing.
The new recruits follow the record-low share price of Coinbase that was reached a week ago. Coinbase said that it was terminating more than 60 workers earlier in November. Surojit Chatterjee, the exchange's chief product officer, will also be resigning with effect at the end of the month.
Recently, a fintech firm called TrueLayer has joined forces with Coinbase to enable UK users to top up their accounts via their mobile banking application. As part of a significant push into digital assets, the open-banking company intends to introduce a stablecoin product to its cryptocurrency-focused service.
