Coinbase Set To Remove Dapp To Comply By Apple's Policy

Coinbase
Coinbase, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the United States, has decided to remove the Dapp browser from Apple's App Store. The decision was made in order to comply with the App Store policy, which might remove the Dapp browsing feature. Coinbase hasn't made any official announcement on the same, but a Reddit user shared an email received from the exchange which stated,

The decision by Coinbase has come just within days of Google's crackdown on crypto-related content on its various platform. First Youtube flagged and deleted several crypto-centred channels without giving any prior notice or warning. Then after a lot of buzz on social media, the largest video hosting platform restored all those videos and channels citing an error on their part. However, the same day when they admitted their mistake, Google's Play Store removed "Metamask" app, an Ethereum wallet and Dapp platform from the play store citing violation of financial policy. Google did not allow for an appeal before removing the application.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that it was unfortunate from Apple to suppress the ever-growing decentralized space. Armstong said that the removal of Dapp browsing service would impact many users. He said,

“This is really unfortunate to see. Apple seems to be eliminating the usage of Dapps from the App Store. If Apple customers want to be able to use Dapps, we may need to make this request know to Apple in some way. This is an important area of innovation in finance, and many developers and early adopters of this technology have millions of dollars worth of crypto tied up in these financial applications, which they will no longer be able to use on Apple mobile devices if this app store policy continues,”

Coinbase mobile applications were providing access to these Dapps for quite some time now. However, the exchange recently made the services available for desktop wallet users as well. So, even if the platform has to remove Dapp accessibility from the mobile applications, users can still avail the services via desktop Walletlink
