It is not the first time that ApplePay has been integrated with any crypto exchange out there but all of them were not having any kind of permission from the official exchange. Coinmama is the first one among all that has been authorised by the firm for this integration. With this integration, the exchange has added another payment option to its platform along with many others like Visa, Mastercard and others.
Even though a lot of platforms have integrated ApplePay on their platforms, the firm was not seen interested in cryptocurrency. However, with this integration of Coinmama, this could be seen that Apple is showing interest in cryptocurrency. This is because around a year ago, the firm has revealed that they are keeping an eye on the crypto space. Back then, Jennifer Bailey, Vice President of ApplePay, said that they were watching cryptocurrency and found it quite interesting.
A while ago, Apple also launched a CryptoKit for iOS 13 users which were meant to allow developers to create hashes for digital signatures. With the launch of CryptoKit, a lot of people started believing that the company might be aiming to create hardware wallet capabilities for crypto storage. Regarding this, Ouriel Ohayon, co-founder of ZenGo has said that the launch of this CryptoKit seems to be useless for cryptocurrency at the current moment.
