The firm was alleged for failing to prevent the crypto theft of worth $1.8 million. The judge has acknowledged the claims of negligence by Seth Shapiro and has allowed the lawsuit to continue further.
The lawsuit was filed against AT&T in December 2019 by Shapiro who is a media tech-consultant and alleged the firm for lack of security which has led towards crypto thefts. He has said that the company’s employees have deliberately used their positions and gained unauthorized access to Shapiro’s account.
According to the court order, Shapiro has met with the first SIM-swap attack back in May 2018. At that time, the firm has assured Shapiro that such swapping will not happen again without his authorization. Shapiro has given time till May 29 to file a complaint followed by the court order.
There is not only one lawsuit as AT&T has been facing a lawsuit from Michael Terpin who is the huge crypto investor. It has been reported that he is seeking the compensation of more than $200 million for a SIM-swap attack which happened back in January 2018. In the previous month, Terpin filed a new lawsuit against the accused criminal of the attack who has now turned 18. During the time, when the attack took place, the attacker was only 15 years old. Now Terpin is seeking around $71 million from the defendant through the lawsuit.
