Officially, Nadeam Nahas worked in the facilities department of the Cohasset school system. However, the Cohasset Police Department asserts that he also secretly operated a cryptocurrency mine in a crawlspace at Cohasset Middle/High School, stealing nearly $18,000 in district electricity in the process.
After discovering multiple computers, wires, and ventilation equipment in a crawlspace of the Cohasset Middle and High School building, school personnel contacted the police in Cohasset. The setup was identified as a crypto mine by the town's IT director, according to police, and town investigators enlisted the assistance of the Department of Homeland Security to remove and examine the equipment.
After the facilities director of Cohasset noticed computers, wiring, and ductwork that appeared out of place given that they were in a crawl space near the boiler room of the school, local police were reportedly first informed about the operation. After a three-month investigation, 11 computers were found there, and Nahas was identified as a suspect. Nahas quit his position with the Cohasset town.
Nahas is said to have previously worked in the facilities department of the town of Cohasset, Massachusetts, in the United States.
