Ideally, Verbiest brings with him over 25 years of experience in the company and will be in charge of the legal and compliance functions of the blockchain firm in the region; while also managing its relations with regulators across the two continents.
Moreover, Richard Byworth, chief executive of Diginex Global commented on the appointment. He said:
“His significant expertise will play an important role in the expansion of our company’s footprint in Europe and globally. Thibault brings a wealth of insights into the regulatory status of blockchain technology and its market applications. He is rightly recognized as a leading legal expert in the fintech space.”
Notably, before joining Diginex, Verbiest was a partner at DS Avocats. He developed a department focused on fintech, digital banking, and crypto-finance. Additionally, Verbiest was also a partner at Gaulle Fleurance. The seasoned lawyer advised the Belgian federal government on its regulatory approach towards the internet.
In addition, he is heavily involved in blockchain and crypto regulations. Verbiest also worked with the French government to create the first draft of the PACTE crypto-assets legislation.
Furthermore, Diginex is among the few firms to have received a license to manage digital asset funds from Hong Kong’s financial regulator. Just recently, the blockchain company listed itself on Nasdaq through a reverse merger. Verbiest commented on his latest position. He said:
“This is a very exciting time to be joining Diginex. It is one of the few companies, if not the only company, targeting institutional investors that is capable of bringing together a set of complementary products and services to realize the full value of distributed ledger technology within financial markets.”
