Gupta acknowledged working with Ankr and advised using Alchemy RPCs up until the problem is fixed. He also emphasized that Polygon is developing its own RPC in order to increase reliability. Additionally, Fantom also urged its users not to make use of the hacked RPC.
The hacker accessed Polygon and Fantom's remote procedure call (RPC) interfaces through the Web3 infrastructure platform Ankr by tricking a third party domain name system (DNS) provider into giving the hacker access to Polygon and Fantom's domains.
Safe access to the crypto platforms' websites was restored shortly a few hours earlier, according to an update from Ankr.
Ankr provides Polygon and Fantom with public RPC gateways, computer programs that allow crypto wallets and web browsers to communicate with Ethereum validator nodes.
The attack also follows a number of significant cryptocurrency attacks that occurred in July. The greatest target last month was Harmony, a decentralized exchange, when $100 million in platform funds were taken.
