According to Ethereum enthusiast @FigoETH, ERC-7683, also known as "Cross Chain Intents," will make Ethereum borderless. Users can transfer NFTs from Arbitrum to Optimism or swap tokens between Polygon and Base without the technical hurdles that currently exist.
ERC-7683 introduces the concept of "Intents" and "Fillers" to streamline cross-chain interactions. Intents express user desires, such as token swaps or governance votes, while Fillers are networks that fulfill these requests with optimized efficiency and lower costs.
Filler networks will standardize interoperability, abstracting complex processes from the user experience. This framework reduces the burden on developers and ensures faster, more cost-effective transactions.
Beyond simplifying transactions, ERC-7683 opens the door to cross-chain decentralized applications (dApps) and unified governance. For example, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) can now manage governance proposals across multiple L2s, allowing broader community participation without additional resources.
Additionally, DeFi applications can leverage the strengths of different chains, such as executing transactions on Optimism for speed while securing assets on Ethereum for enhanced safety. Introduced by Mark Toda, Matt Rice, and Nick Pai in November 2024, ERC-7683 sets a new standard for cross-chain functionality in the Ethereum ecosystem.
