Ethereum Software Firm ConsenSys Reveals it Collects User Data

ConsenSys User Data
ConsenSys, one of the companies responsible for the Ethereum merger, revealed on Thursday that it also gathers user data for its on-chain wallet service MetaMask. Days before the discovery, the decentralized crypto exchange (DEX) Uniswap had similarly updated its privacy policy, according to reports. According to ConsenSys, it gathers user data that may be used to identify a particular user, such as contact numbers, profile details, and other user data.

ConsenSys Products Include MetaMask and Infura

According to the company, Infura, the default remote procedure call (RPC) operator for the digital wallet MetaMask, will record the customer's IP address and Ethereum wallet address for operations while utilizing Infura. RPC is a mechanism for obtaining knowledge/analysis from a program operating on a remote computer server.

The financial information won't be gathered on MetaMask if a user changes to a different RPC. ConsenSys's products include the digital wallet MetaMask and Infura, a developer of blockchain tools. While this was going on, members of the Crypto Twitter community expressed their anger with the decision, which some believed violated a user's privacy, one of the main tenets of the crypto sector.
