Hacker Demands 10 Bitcoin for Stolen Data of a Billion Chinese Citizens

Chinese Citizens
Hackers are allegedly targeting a database of the Shanghai National Police in a cybersecurity breach that resulted in the theft of the personal information of Chinese citizens (SHGA). Over 1 billion Chinese residents lost personal information due to a security breach that happened sometime in 2022. Both the open and dark webs have now seen sales of the data in which names, addresses, government ID numbers, phone numbers, and other private information are included.

Binance Threat Intelligence Systems

A hacker going by the alias ChinaDan is offering to sell the stolen data for 10 bitcoin ($200,000). ChinaDan posted the offer on Breached to a hacking community frequented by black hat hackers. The exchange's threat intelligence systems discovered that 1 billion resident records from "one Asian country" were placed up for sale on the dark web, according to a post made over the weekend by Zhao. According to the exchange, it strengthened its verification procedures for persons impacted by the incident.

Manta Network

Kenny Li, the co-founder of the web3 privacy project Manta Network, said that the breach might affect the cryptocurrency market. Li thinks that they might use the stolen data to exploit individuals and carry out activities like phishing to obtain keys or have unauthorized access to centralized exchange programs.

Zhao said that ElasticSearch, a well-known enterprise search and data analytics engine, may have had a bugged deployment at the time of the attack.
