Following a six-month silence on Twitter, Heather Morgan announced that she was not, in fact, participating in any cryptocurrency initiatives. Morgan is a suspect in laundering billions of dollars taken from the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.
Morgan stated on Twitter,
"I am not involved in any crypto project. Any crypto or NFT project bearing my name or likeness is a scam that I do not endorse."
Before facing money laundering charges, Morgan had a successful rap career as "Razzlekhan" and served as CEO of the copywriting company SaleForce. She also shared tips to use social engineering in a better way to "get your way into anything" and safeguard organizations from online thieves.
However, the press release earlier reported that on February 8, Morgan and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, were charged with allegedly laundering $4.5 billion in Bitcoin stolen from the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex. On the same day, the US Department of Justice recovered $3.6 billion of the stolen money.
For their charges of conspiracy to commit financial fraud and defraud the United States, Morgan and Lichtenstein may get up to 25 years in prison. However, the two were freed on a combined bail of $8 million.
