Madonna Becomes the Latest Celeb to Buy a New Bored Ape
Bored Ape Yacht Club Hype Continues
In an Instagram post on Thursday, pop singer Madonna revealed she had “finally entered the Metaverse” by purchasing her very own Bored Ape NFT, a cartoon monkey with an ‘S&M hat,’ adorned with evil-eye symbols on its fur body.
“I finally entered the metaverse,” said Madonna. “My very own Ape! What should I name her?” adding, “We all need protection from evil eyes.”
She further gave a shout out to MoonPay, a crypto payments firm that has been purchasing NFTs on behalf of celebrities since late last year, for helping her in purchasing the NFT.
According to data from OpenSea, the NFT Marketplace, MoonPay acquired Madonna’s Bored Ape #4988 for 180 ether (around $564,000) last week then transferred it to a wallet presumably owned by Madonna two days ago. In addition to BAYC, the wallet also owns an NFT from the Zombinomy Collection.
Other celebs from the entertainment world to own a Bored Ape include Gwyneth Paltrow, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, Post Malone, DJ Khaled, Marshmello, The Chainsmokers among others.
