In a festive spirit wishing happy New Year, Ricardo Salinas encouraged his social media followers to stay away from fiat currencies and instead invest in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC).
“Stay away from fiat money,” Salinas said in the Spanish-language video he posted on December 24. “The dollar, the euro, the yen, the peso all are the same story. It's fake money made of paper lies, and the central banks are producing more money than ever. Invest in Bitcoin.”
His latest message doesn’t come as a surprise, concerning Salinas has been a long-term Bitcoin holder. He first bought BTC at $500 in 2013 and claims to be his best investment ever. At one point he revealed having 10 percent of his wealth in the flagship cryptocurrency.
Earlier this month his Mexican retail chain Grupo Elektra became the first to accept bitcoin (BTC) for payments in Mexico.
However, Mexico's central bank issued a statement the next day saying Bitcoins are not legal tender and that financial institutions were not authorized to offer/accept crypto transactions.
