Phil Mataras, the founder of ArDrive, revealed that the mobile app would use the ArWeave storage network, with an iOS version planned for the near future. Like Filecoin and Storj, Arweave is a decentralized file storage platform built on the blockchain. Decentralized storage networks are looking to take a chunk out of the established data storage and server market, which Amazon Web Services dominate.
Since users must pay for data upload using Arweave's native currency, AR, it is anticipated that most ArDrive Mobile users would be crypto-natives initially. The native $AR coin of the Arweave Network serves as a payment for storage space sales. It gives them a reason to keep such files accessible to customers. Arweave thinks that by using this incentive system, it would be possible to build a contemporary Library of Alexandria that would permanently preserve human knowledge.
Over 500 monthly active users make up ArDrive's estimated 10,000 total users. Additionally, cross-application support and a credit card payment option are planned. The Arweave team's decentralized data storage network, AR.IO, is anticipated to launch in January or February next year. ArDrive, which secured $17.2 million earlier this year, does not anticipate raising another round for at least the next six months.
