Nelson Mandela NFT Minted
Non-fungible tokens or NFTs have garnered popularity in recent months, with caricatures of monkeys and doodles commanding millions of dollars. Many have begun stepping into the nascent trading business which uses blockchain to authenticate unique tokens.

Former President’s NFT Sells In Millions

Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela’s original arrest warrant from the year 1961 was recently minted as an NFT which was raised for 1.9 million rands ($1,30,550). The auction aimed to help fund a heritage site.

Proceeds from the sale will be going to the Liliesleaf Museum Heritage Site. The heritage site has been documenting South Africa’s struggle for a democratic nation. The Museum had received the original arrest warrant in 2004 as a donation.

Why Was Nelson Mandela Arrested?

After spending 27 years in prison, the anti-apartheid activist tasted his first win when he went on to become South Africa’s first Black president. He was arrested in 1962 for conspiring against the White-minority government.
