Launched in December on XRPL and Ethereum, RLUSD is backed by USD and cash-equivalent reserves. Ripple has minted over 80 million RLUSD so far and plans to release an attestation report this month, detailing the assets backing the stablecoin.
Ripple’s white paper highlights RLUSD’s role in improving cross-border B2B payments, remittances, and fiat on/off-ramps. The stablecoin is already being used by platforms like Bitstamp and Bullish, with more exchanges expected to adopt it soon.
Ripple President Monica Long shared her optimistic outlook for crypto in 2025, predicting increased stablecoin demand and wider adoption of RLUSD. She emphasized RLUSD's potential to benefit financial institutions and retail users alike.
Long also expects the SEC to continue approving crypto-based ETFs, potentially paving the way for an XRP ETF following last year’s approvals of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.
With its growing adoption and strategic focus, RLUSD is poised to play a crucial role in the cryptocurrency ecosystem in the coming years.
