Sequoia Capital cryptocurrencies fund
Venture capital firm Sequoia Capital has launched a new $500 million to $600 million fund that focus on investing in cryptocurrencies and other digital assets.

Sequoia's New Fund Will Invest in Liquid Tokens

The latest Sequoia Crypto Fund will primarily invest in 'liquid tokens' a.k.a cryptocurrencies which are already listed on digital asset exchanges and those that are yet to be listed.

The new crypto fund is one of the firm's first sub-funds under its new capital structure called Sequoia Capital Fund which was formed last October as part of the VC firm's restructuring.

“Sequoia Crypto Fund complements our broader commitment to crypto. Our goal with this fund is to participate more actively in protocols, better support token-only projects, and learn by doing ourselves. We remain committed to working collaboratively with the crypto community, including providing ongoing support for open-source research,” the announcement post read.

In addition to investing in digital assets, Sequoia also stated that it plans to support open-source research and continue partnering with crypto teams across the industry.

Venture Capital Investment in Crypto

Crypto and blockchain-focused venture capital has grown exponentially over the past year. In fact, overall venture capital investments last year hit a whopping $621 billion. Meanwhile, venture capital funds primarily focused on crypto and blockchain-based startups represented 5.28% of last year’s aggregate VC investments with $32.8 billion.

Sequoia is already considered one of the 20 top venture investors in blockchain startups having invested in Metastable, Polychain, Binance, Huobi, Polygon, Orchid Labs, String Labs, among others.

Earlier this month, Sequoia Capital's India arm led a $450 million investment in Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Polygon.
