Pol Lt Gen Montri Yimyaem, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 2 during his interaction with the media noted that the victim Chang registered a police complaint after the captors released him once he paid US$742,418 in Bitcoin.
The police have taken three accused under its custody including one Mr Kim who met Chang just a few days prior to the abduction. Police also searched a house belonging to one of the people of interest and were able to recover several tools used for kidnapping.
The kidnapped victim Mr Cheng informed the police that he was returning from Thailand with Mr Kim and took a taxi from Suvarnabhumi airport to Chachoengsao’s Muang district, where the pickup truck was stationed waiting for him. He went onto claim that he transferred the demanded amount of 1 million Singaporean dollars in Bitcoin and managed to flee on Friday from the captive.
The police authorities are looking into digital transactions to verify the claims. At the same time, Cheng hailed a passing by a vehicle which helped in reaching the nearest police station to register their case. He also noted that the reason he recognized the pickup truck belonging to the Thai actor in question because he has met him a couple of times for drinks in the past.
The police have got the custody of the actor and will be questioning his role in the abduction and the reason behind demanding ransom in Bitcoin.
