While Wojcicki didn’t exactly share what her team is planning nor provide any timeline on testing the NFTs, she did say that the company is looking ahead to the future and has been following everything happening in Web3 'as a source of inspiration to continue innovating.'
“The past year in the world of crypto, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and even decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) has highlighted a previously unimaginable opportunity to grow the connection between creators and their fans,” Wojcicki wrote in the open letter.
Earlier last week, Twitter announced an NFT profile verification feature that allows users to display their NFTs as hexagonal profile pictures, which when clicked will allow others to learn more about the non-fungible token.
Meta Platforms is also reportedly working on letting users create and sell NFTs on Facebook and Instagram including launching a potential marketplace. In December 2021, Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared that the media-sharing platform too was exploring NFTs.
Similarly, in September 2021, the video app TikTok jumped on the NFT bandwagon by announcing an NFT collection designed by some of its top creators.
Meanwhile, 2021 has been a blockbuster year for NFTs, with sales reaching upto a whopping $25 billion, according to data from market tracker DappRadar.
